Early Days (2020-21)
Nick and Andrew set up two chess boards on the riverside and invited people to play. More and more people came along, we got a few more boards and clocks and started a Facebook group which soon had around 150 members.
About GP Chess
The Spanish Galleon (2021-22)
A Greenwich pub, who were kind enough to let us use their upstairs room (which had the advantage of being warm in winter). Unfortunately, a few months later the pub was closed for refurbishment, so we had to move.
The Seafood Disco Table (2022)
We began running Saturday afternoon sessions at the Seafood Disco table near the O2, in Greenwich Peninsula during the summer months.
The Old Brewery (2022-to October 17th 2025)
We love our Sunday afternoon home, The fabulous Old Brewery in the historic grounds of the Old Royal Naval Hospital in Greenwich. We occupy around 4-5 tables sheltered from the weather by the colonnade roof. We are very grateful to Youngs Brewery who operate the restaurant for allowing us to use their lovely venue.
Colab Tower in Bankside from 26th October 2025
Because, in winter it gets cold and windy at our outdoor venue – The Old Brewery, we are moving at a new home – The Colab Tower which is situated on Park St SE1 right next to Southwark Bridge, the actual address is 22 Southwark Bridge Road. SE19HS. The venue is a few minutes walk from Tate Modern and Borough Market, nearest tube is London Bridge.
